Turquoise

We love turquoise! With spring here and summer approaching, nothing is prettier than turquoise jewelry on tanned skin. Many of our favorite designers are using turquoise in their jewelry designs and there isn’t a better time than now to wear this beautiful gem.
The word Turquoise is derived from the Greek word “Turkois” meaning “Turkish”. This beautiful blue stone was first brought to Europe from the Eastern Mediterranean by Levantine traders known as Turks. Turquoise from this region was often a robin egg blue color, however, the color of this stone can range from green to greenish blue to sky blue shades.
The Egyptians used the stone as a valuable ornament and it was believed that turquoise attracted success and love. It was also believed that turquoise had special powers which included protection, healing and courage. Turquoise was also used by medicine men for healing and by warriors who would secure turquoise to the end of their bows to insure an accurate shot.
As we jump ahead to present times, turquoise has been popular throughout the decades and recently has seen a resurgence in its popularity. Take a look at some of our favorite designs in turquoise. Leave us a comment and let us know which one is your favorite.
