In anticipation of our Marco Bicego Trunk Show on Saturday, June 30th, we recently sat down with the Italian designer who is known for his use of colored gemstones and hand craftsmanship in his designs. His exquisite jewelry designs reflect his dynamic personality and his passion for what he does shines through in his creations. Read on and learn more about the man behind the designs.
Where are you from? Vicenza, Italy. The gold capital of the world!
What was your first job? Working at my father’s factory as a teenager doing odd jobs.
How did you get your start designing jewelry? I used to spend my summers each year at my father’s Goldsmithing factory where I would watch the craftsmen at work and try my hand at making objects of my own. My collection debuted in 2000 at the Vicenza Oro fair – my aim was to express my personal vision of life, my passions and my curiosity through jewelry design. We just celebrated our 18th anniversary, which is an incredible milestone for me personally – I can’t believe how fast time has gone by and how we have grown.
What inspires your designs? I draw inspiration from the beauty I find in my everyday life; colors in nature, architectural design, and I imagine what my clients want to wear next! Also, I am very inspired by the places I travel to, and often, I name my collections after the destination that has inspired me – Jaipur, Africa and Paradise.
What trend are you loving right now? Layers – My necklaces are meant to be worn together. You can layer them on top of one another, use different lengths and ultimately create your own perfect necklace for any outfit.
What do you like to do in your spare time? I love to travel and cook for my family.
What was the first piece of jewelry you designed? A bracelet for my future wife 🙂
Favorite vacation spot? My ski house in Asiago, Italy.
Favorite cocktail? I prefer wine, which there is never a shortage of in Italy!
Describe your personal style. Simple with a European flair. I dress very casually, yet elegantly. I wear jeans almost all the time!
Best meal and where? Lamb Ragu at Da Silvano
What is your personal motto? Everyday luxury.
