You just returned from Baselworld, The World Watch and Jewelry Show in Basel, Switzerland. Which watch are you most excited about? Chad ~ Wow, so many it’s a hard choice. I definitely think Rolex hit a home run with the introduction of the new Cellini’s and Tudor reintroduced the Ranger Collection. Tag Heuer is coming out with great price points from $1,200 – $2,500 and Shinola, an American made watch with a sporty, fun look has watches from $500. David ~ The new Rolex Cellini comes in three variations – Cellini Time, Cellini Date and The Cellini Dual time. I particularly love the look of the Everose gold case on the black alligator strap.
What was the most outrageous piece of jewelry you saw at Baselworld? Chad ~ A pair of matching asscher cut diamonds, each weighing 21 carats, D color, flawless. David ~ A 17.91 ct round diamond, D flawless.
What trends in watches and jewelry did you see at the show? Chad ~ In jewelry there is a big trend toward colored gemstones. We saw a lot of beautiful stones especially in blues, pinks and purples. In watches we saw a lot of creativity in unique mechanics and finishes. David ~ A big trend that was prevalent at the show was rose gold in watches and jewelry. We saw many unique and modern designs that we’re very excited about. In watches, there is a return to elegance and sophistication. A great example of this is the Cellini by Rolex. For women, we saw watches with ornate designs incorporating diamonds and gemstones.
What was the highlight of the trip? Chad ~ Just spending time with David outside the store. David ~ Traveling with Chad to Basel is always fun. This show is especially unique because it attracts nearly 150,000 visitors from over 100 countries and is the world’s biggest and most important event in the watch and jewelry industry.
What watch are you wearing right now? Chad ~ Tudor Black Bay on the distressed brown leather strap. David ~ 42 mm Cartier Calibre Chronograph on a black alligator strap.
What is your favorite jewelry trend for spring? Chad ~ Gold is a big trend in jewelry right now. I love the look of yellow gold. It’s such an elegant and warm look. David ~ I like the look of stacked bangles. Whether they’re in gold or sterling silver, bangles can really dress up an outfit and are a great addition every woman should have in her jewelry wardrobe.
What advice would you give someone who is looking to purchase a new watch? Chad ~ A watch is definitely an extension of one’s personality. Find something that you are comfortable with that also makes a statement about who you are. David ~ Live on the edge a little. Watches define who you are.
Which do you prefer – Leather Strap or Metal Bracelet? Chad ~ I love the look of a strap but prefer the wearability of a bracelet. David ~ Not a fair question. That’s like asking to pick my favorite pizza!
You just introduced the Tudor watch line to Alson Jewelers. Tell us about the line. Chad ~ Love it! It’s hip and cutting edge. Great retro looks from the early days. David ~ We’re very excited about the addition of Tudor to our store. The line has a cool retro look at a great price point.
You both are fathers to sons. Which watch would you choose to pass down to your sons? Chad ~ A classic Cartier Tank or my first Rolex, all stainless steel Datejust II. David ~ The iconic Rolex Submariner with a black dial and bezel.
